IIST Trivandrum | Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology Trivandrum

IIST Trivandrum: The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology is also called in Hindi as (भारतीय अंतरिक्ष विज्ञान एवं प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान) (IIST) may be a government-aided institute and deemed university for the study and analysis of space science, set at Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. it’s the primary university in Asia to be alone dedicated to the study and analysis of outer space.

It was inaugurated on fourteen September 2007 by G. Madhavan Nair, the then Chairman of ISRO. IIST came upon by the Indian space research Organization (ISRO) below the Department of Space, Government of India. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, was the Chancellor of IIST. IIST offers regular engineering undergrad, postgrad and doctorate program with target space science, technology and applications.

History of IIST Thiruvananthapuram:

Envisioned to meet the wants of scientists and engineers within the Indian program, by providing undergraduate and postgraduate education and analysis program in space science and technology, the institute started acting from the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) field, Thiruvananthapuram, on fourteen Sep 2007 with an associate initial investment of ₹270 crores and annual continual value of ₹400 million by the regime.

The expenditure of every student throughout the course is supported by ISRO within the sort of scholarships or assistantships, and victorious students meeting prescribed criteria are after absorbed into ISRO as scientists. it’s the sole institute of its kind in India, that offers a BTech degree in space Technology, and subjects exclusive to the podium of space science and technology. B. N. Suresh, director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, is the founding director of the institute.

On 14th July 2008, the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission (UGC), presented deemed university status, underneath a brand new class, to the Institute for 5 years.

The campus of IIST Trivandrum:

At its beginning, the institute of IIST Trivandrum started performing at the ATF field, below Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala. fashionable environmentally friendly buildings of distinctive design merge well with the thickly timbered campus of one hundred acres settled on the foothills of Sahyadri.

A state-of-the-art residential field is engineered close to Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre in Valiamala, Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram was inaugurated by Dr. Manmohan Singh, the previous Prime Minister of Bharat on twenty-five August 2009. The institute started functioning in its new field from fifteen August 2010. The field has AN extension within the picturesque Ponmudi Hills, Thiruvananthapuram, for AN observatory that is below construction.

Thermal and Propulsion science laboratory:

The science laboratory offers experiments for college boy and postgraduate students. B. Tech. students have laboratory sessions in their IV and VII semester of the study. The laboratory conjointly facilitates numerous experiments throughout internships and mini-projects associated with heat transfer, combustion, point flow, propulsion and thermal engineering. the scholars will use and work with several flow, pressure and temperature live sensors of business standards for his or her experiments. they might put together and acquire the signal from the sensors through any of the few completely different kind information acquisition systems offered.

Typical experiments enclosed in their IV semester square measure performance analysis of multicylinder CRDI  and MPFI fuel engine, Performance analysis of 2 stages mutual compressor and centrifugal blower, etc. The experiments within the VII semester in the main embody Performance characterization on a flying drainpipe check rig, turbine check rig and axial flow fan. A compressible flow check rig permits the study and characterization of flow through turbomachine rotors and subsonic nozzles.

As a neighborhood of the core laboratory course for M. Tech. Propulsion, the science laboratory presently offers experiments in combustion and propulsion.
