The early life of Swami Vivekananda:

Vivekananda was born Narendranath Datta in a Kayastha family at his ancestral home at three Gourmohan Mukherjee Street in Kolkata, the capital of British India, on twelve January 1863 throughout the Makar Sankranti festival. Swami Vivekananda Travels in India:

In 1888, Narendra left the monastery as a Parivrâjaka— the Hindu religious life of a wandering monk, “without fixed abode, while not ties, freelance, and strangers where they go”. His sole possessions were kamandalu workers and his 2 favorite books: the Bhagavad Geeta and also the Imitation of Christ.
